Is Emberville Multiplayer? Co-op Status and How It'll Work
Emberville launches single-player only. The studio wants server-based co-op for 1.0, with worlds and characters kept separate. What's confirmed, and what isn't.

Straight answer: no multiplayer at launch.
The October 27, 2026 Early Access build is listed as Single-player on Steam.
The studio does want co-op. They said it “will very likely not be in the beginning of EA”, that whether it lands during Early Access is “we don’t know yet”, and that they definitely want it in 1.0.

How the studio described co-op
The August 2025 Q&A went into real detail, and the studio framed it as not reinventing the wheel:
- Server-based, world-driven, modelled on Terraria.
- Your character is yours; the world belongs to whoever created it. World progress is stored separately from characters.
- Friends can join your world and share the same progress and the same town.
- Switching who hosts means switching saves, because the world is the anchor.
For a group planning to play together, that boils down to one decision: agree on whose world it is first. Town progress follows the world, not the person.
Why it isn’t there yet
The studio’s reason is time and priority, not a technical dead end. Co-op “will very likely not be in the beginning of EA”, and whether it lands during Early Access is still “we don’t know yet”.
That matches how they talk about every other feature: “we’d rather not do it until we can do it right.”
Worth noting: the CO-OP thread on the Steam forums keeps getting replies, so this is a loud community request. The studio knows, and has gone on the record. They just haven’t given a date.
If you want to play together, plan like this
- Buy for single-player. Launch has no multiplayer entry point at all.
- Decide whose world it will be, in advance. When co-op arrives, the world’s creator owns the town’s progress.
- Don’t plan around split-screen. The studio described a server model. Local co-op has never appeared in any official statement.
- Watch the official channels. Co-op news will land on the Steam news hub and the official YouTube channel.
Still undecided
Player count, whether dedicated servers are needed, whether local co-op exists, and whether crossplay is supported. None of the four has been stated. Any specific number right now is a guess.
