Emberville Classes and Weapons: The Inheritance Rule
Emberville's 13 classes are unlocked by playing, not picked at the start. How weapon combos, independent weapon levels and inheritance slots actually work.

Short version: in Emberville, your class is something you earn, not something you pick.
The studio plans 13 classes and 16 weapon categories. You start as “a person just doing his thing”. Hit a milestone with a weapon or armour type and the matching class unlocks. After that you can switch whenever you like.
How unlocking and switching work
The studio spelled it out in their Q&A:
| Stage | What they said |
|---|---|
| Start | No class. Just a base character |
| Unlock trigger | Maybe a character level, maybe a quest, maybe finding an item |
| After unlocking | Switch freely. Every class has its own skill tree |
| Do you lose levels? | No. Each class keeps its own level |
Level class A to 5, move to class B and take it to 10, then switch back to A — A is still level 5.
Weapons level themselves, and they combo
Weapons aren’t just stat sticks.
- Every category levels separately. Use a sword enough and sword skills and bonuses unlock. Same for bows and staves. In the studio’s words, it makes your loadout “a build, not just a swap”.
- Combos. Combat starts from two attack buttons. Mix a main and an alternate attack in the right order for a heavier finisher. IGN’s example: two main attacks with knuckles, then an alternate to close, produces a roundhouse kick with a stun chance.
- Every weapon has its own mastery tree. IGN confirmed swords, bows, staves and knuckles were all playable in the Prologue, each with a separate tree.
Armour, alchemy and gathering get mastery trees too.
Inheritance slots are where builds live
This is the most important part of the studio Q&A:
- Your character levels up, and levels open inheritance slots.
- Levelling a class unlocks some of its active and passive skills for those slots.
- Inheritance slots are class-agnostic. Any class can use what’s in them.
- But a class ultimate can never be inherited.
So the loop becomes: level a class to grab the passive you want, level another to grab the active you want, then play the class you actually enjoy with your slots filled. The studio describes it as building your own class.
That’s also why “which class is strongest” has no answer yet. Because ultimates can’t be inherited, every class keeps something nobody else can take.
Loot is Diablo-style
The studio confirmed there’s no pity system. Any enemy can drop something rare or extremely rare, and they want every kill to carry a little “what if”. It’s random, not a fixed farming route.
What the Prologue actually shows
IGN’s hands-on from September 11, 2026 gives a clean list:
- Playable: character creation, four weapon types, combos, gear drops, some gathering, campfire cooking.
- Marked Coming Soon: the gathering and crafting mastery trees, and the town-building systems.
The same piece notes that IGN’s writer picked the Wanderer perk and found combos “more natural on a controller” than on mouse and keyboard.

Neither the 13 classes nor the 16 weapon categories have published names, numbers or trees, so any tier list right now is guesswork.
